Project overview

An educational commerce platform with protected course video delivery, student access, and a custom administration system.

My role

Sole Full-Stack Developer

The problem

Paid educational content needs enrollment-aware access and manageable media processing without disrupting legitimate playback.

What I delivered

  • Independently built the frontend, backend, administration, course/chapter/lesson management, products, course sales, payments, and student accounts.
  • Implemented enrollment authorization, authenticated HLS playback, FFmpeg processing, encrypted media segments, and protected streaming endpoints.
  • Built expiring playback sessions, device-aware access controls, and controls against abnormal bulk segment retrieval.
  • Developed dynamic user-identifying watermarks with administrator controls for visibility and movement frequency.
  • Implemented FTP-backed video storage and administration, playback progress, and resume functionality.

How the system fits together

Technical architecture Conceptual flow
  1. Student
  2. Authenticated player
  3. Streaming authorization
  4. Protected HLS manifest & segments
  5. Media storage

Engineering challenges

  • Coordinating player authorization, session expiry, media storage, and playback progress.
  • Deterring bulk retrieval while keeping the player usable for enrolled students.

Technical decisions

  • Authorize HLS requests through protected streaming endpoints and expiring playback sessions.
  • Combine encrypted delivery with configurable dynamic watermarking and abnormal retrieval monitoring.

Implementation context

Protected HLS and download-deterrence controls do not make video impossible to download or screen-record. The client-side watermark is not permanently burned into exported video. Commercial DRM is not claimed. Player screenshots require an authorized student environment.
